- 07/09: A Ph.D. student in the CISE Department wishes to carry out a survey of the students in this class as part of his dissertation research. The survey consists of visiting about 100 websites, and rating a small number of questions regarding the relevance of those sites with respect to the questions. No special expertise is required. The amount of time required to take the survey is estimated to be 2 hours, so with the University's authorization, we can offer a 2% (the maximum allowed) boost on your final grade in this course. Participation is entirely optional, although of course only those students who decide to participate will receive the 2% boost. Per University regulations and federal law, the results will be kept confidential, and nothing that can identify you in any way will be published. Before you can participate, University regulations require that you sign an Informed Consent form. We will make the Informed Consent forms available during the next exam, on Thursday, July 16. Signing the form does not obligate you to participate, but your results can be used in the study (and the 2% credit awarded) ONLY if you sign the form.
