April 14, 2008: General Body Meeting
  • ASCIE Officers Elections for session 2008-2009: CISE graduate students voted the following for:
    • Thames Harrision as the President of ASCIE for 2008-2009.
    • Hale Erten as the Vice President of ASCIE for 2008-2009.
    • Sorav Chatterjee as the Historian of ASCIE for 2008-2009.
    • Seniha Esen Yuksel and Alina Zare as GSC Representative of ASCIE for 2008-2009.
    • Farhat Ay as the BEC Representaive of ASCIE for 2008-2009.
  • Positions for Secretary and Treasurer, ASCIE , are still open.Please file nominations to contest.
  • Note on Plagiarism
    • An informal discussion was held on plagiarism, what it is , how is it harmful and possible consequence.The topic was brought up due to recent spate of activities that signalled plagiarism. Masters and PhD studnets were also invited for the same session taken up by Dr. Sahni a week later.
    • Possible suggestions were given by students to avoid plagiarism.Details are given at April 14,2008

    February 25, 2008: General Body Meeting
    • Elections : Thames has been elected as the new treasurer.
    • Internship Information :John Bowers explained, in detail, the procedure of registering for credits
      for an intership.Any candidate going for an intership can register for any number of credit hours
      out of which only two hours will be counted towards the degree. It is better to inform John, at earliest,
      about the decision to go for internship, the employers telephone number, name and the address.
      Note: Only after providing above information will let John issue a CPT letter.
    • GAU presentation :Two GAU representatives came to tell about GAU, its functions and what to expect from them.
      The GAU [Graduate Assistants United]is a voluntary organzation of graduate students that fights for rights of a graduate student at UFL.
      Prominent activities/outcomes are: GatorGradCare Insurance, Payroll deduction for
      fees for assistantship holders. Questions were asked whether dental treatments can be covered
      inside GradGatorCare Insurance.
      One can visit at GAU for any issue pertaining to graduate assistants.

    • GSC Update :
      • Bill of rights discussion.
      • Student body president candidate discussion.
      • Travel grants for students who intend to present their papers at conference(s).
    • CISE Department Annual Picnic :Volunteers among members decided on menu for the picnic.

    January 30, 2008: VM Ware Information Session
      Was held at E121. Approximately eighty people were present. The session started with presentation
      on company, work culture, their main work in virtual machines followed by demonstration of their latest product
      Fusion. This was followed by question answer session and T-Shirt distribution alongwith software.
    January 28, 2008: Second CISE Career Workshop Development
      The second career workshop development for CISE was successfully organized.
      Eleven companies registered.There was a huge turnout of students comprising
      undergraduate and graduate students.The employers and the aspirants showed enthusiasm.
      Wide range of snacks , colorful charts, logos and equipments of the participating
      companies adorned tables. Participating companies were(in alphabetical order) :-
      Harris, Ignition Entertainment ,IEA, Lockheed Martin, McKesson, Microsoft, Morgan Stanley, Raytheon, Sage Software,
      Ultimate Software, VMWare and Walt Disney World.
    January 14, 2008: General Body Meeting
    • E- Week
      Softball tournament to be held on Feb 23, 2008.Interesting match of Students Vs Professors.
      Time and Venue to be announced in a week or two.Interested can apply through mail to
      Jessica Wooden jessw107@ufl.edu. Free food and equipments will be provided.
      All School of Engineering students are invited.
    • Career Development Workshop
      ASCIE is looking for volunteers to help in conducting the workshop.Eleven companies have registered
      till now.More expected.Volunteers needed for registration, T-shirt distribution, Catering and
      Technical work ( computer setup ). Event to be held on Jan 28, 2008 at Touchdown Terrace inside
      UFL Stadium

    • Upcoming Information Sessions
      • TCS ( Tata Consulting Services ) , will be holding its info seesion on Jan 29, 2008 at
        CSE 404 at 6 pm.

      • VMWare , will hold its session on Jan 30,2008 , at 6pm ,Venue : TBA.
        Come and get free softwares.
      • Microsoft , will hold its session on Jan 31,2008 , at 6pm,Venue : TBA.
    • Graduate Student Council Election
      Looking for a new GSC representative from CISE to represent the same in the Studnet Government Body Meetings.
      One can nominate oneself.Election to take place in the next ASCIE Meeting on Jan 29,2008.
    • Qualifying Study Groups
      • Official News
        As a reminder, the qualifying sign up sheets are avaialable and should be filled latest by Feb 01, 2008.
        The exams will be held between March 17-20. Exact dates will be available in the next few days
      • ASCIE Qualifying Exam Groups As a reminder the ASCIE Forum has Qualifying Exam Groups and open to
        anybody giving exam or planning to take in future semester. People who have objection in using their real
        names for discussion are given the liberty to choose any other name hiding their identity.
        Only restriction is on posting previous years papers.This is against the department policy.
    • Students' Issues
      • Departmental Seminar Requirements
        The issue was discussed on the concern shown by the department for having atleast ten seminar requirements.
        Students' opinion regarding the same and need for proper notification about these seminars was discussed.
        People are encouraged to bring out their concern related to this to enable ASCIE for taking up the matter to the authority.
      • Summer 2008 Semester Cancellation
        The news is still unconfirmed.Rumors are about full cancellation of classes, including video feeds.

    January 04, 2008: New Student Orientation
    • Attendance
      About forty new students attended the session.The session commenced by a breif description
      of ASCIE , its role and use.This was followed by a short preseantation on academic life
      at UFL and the department.
    • T-shirt Distribution
      Following the presentations, CISE T-Shirts were distributed among participants alongwith snacks.
    • QA Session
      Informal question answer round, where new studnets asked seniors about courses and program.
