Access to the lab is described below in the section on public access labs. In addition, the suns may be accessesed remotely using SSH.

E113 Lab

The E113 lab is a reservable lab. It contains 16 linux computers named:

lin113-00
lin113-01
...
lin113-14
lin113-15

The machine lin113-00 is reserved for TA access if a TA is in the lab. At all other times, it is available to the students. However, it should only be used when all other machines are occupied as it requires special attention due to the fact that it is hooked up to the projector.

Access to the lab is described below in the section on reservable labs. In addition, the linux machines may be accessesed remotely using SSH.

E115 Lab

The E115 lab is a reservable lab. It contains 24 windows computers named:

pc115-01
pc115-02
...
pc115-23
pc115-24

The machine pc115-17 is reserved for TA access if a TA is in the lab. At all other times, it is available to the students. However, it should only be used when all other machines are occupied as it requires special attention due to the fact that it is hooked up to the projector.

Access to the lab is described below in the section on reservable labs.

E116 Lab

The E116 lab is a reservable lab. It contains 17 linux computers named:

lin116-00
lin116-01
...
lin116-15
lin116-16

The machine lin116-00 is reserved for TA access if a TA is in the lab. At all other times, it is available to the students. However, it should only be used when all other machines are occupied as it requires special attention due to the fact that it is hooked up to the projector.

Access to the lab is described below in the section on reservable labs. In addition, the linux machines may be accessesed remotely using SSH.

E313 Lab

The E313 lab is a special application lab. It consists of machines with high end graphics capabilities and is reserved for specific courses which deal in graphics. It contains 3 windows computers and 12 linux computers named:

pc313-01
pc313-02
pc313-03

and

lin313-01
lin313-02
...
lin313-11
lin313-12

Access to the lab is described below in the section on special application labs. Typically, it is reserved for the use of students taking graphics classes. Anyone else using the lab must obtain permission, either from the professors teaching the graphics courses, or from the system staff.

The linux machines may be accessesed remotely using SSH, but should only be used by graphics students with the permission of the professors teaching graphics courses. Abuse may result in loss of access to the labs.

The 313 lab may also be reserved in cases where the other reservable labs are not sufficient, provided it doesn't interfere with the graphics courses.

CPU servers

The following machines are available for use as CPU servers.

Solaris SPARC

rain
sand
bay
shine
eclipse

Linux (AMD 64)

thunder
storm

CISE CPU servers are available to all users to run jobs on, and to log in to from remote locations. They tend to be some of the fastest machines in the department and have the most memory. They are also very heavily used, so they may, or may not, be faster than other public machines.

Remote access is availalbe using SSH.

Public Access Labs

CISE public labs are available 24/7 to anyone who has a CISE account. Due to numerous security problems, labs are locked, and require a valid Gator 1 card to access them after hours. Also, labs are monitored with security cameras.

Public labs, and the computers in them, are not reservable, either for a class, or for individual use. Any instructor or TA with instructional needs should look into the the reservable labs. Locking the screen for extended periods of time is not allowed. Locking the screen should only be done for short periods (less than 15 minutes). If you will be away from the computer for longer than that, you should log out completely in order to allow others to access the computer.

Reservable Labs

CISE reservable labs may be reserved by CISE faculty members for use in their classes or for other applications which require a dedicated lab. Calendars are posted on all reservable labs listing times they are reserved. All students not directly involved in the class or project which has reserved the lab must logout of the computer and leave the lab during periods where the lab is reserved.

The following link contains information on reserving a lab, as well as links to the calendars showing current reservations.

Reserving a Lab

During periods where the labs are not reserved, they are available as a public access lab.

Special Application Labs

Some labs are not open for public use, but are reserved for specific classes or purposes. Only students in the appropriate classes will be granted access to these labs, and will require a valid Gator 1 card to enter.

Harris Lab
Used for mobile computing research and coursework. The lab contains 2 Dell servers, 1 Sun Server, 3 Sun workstations and 13 PC's.

Remote Access

All unix computers are available for remote login using the SSH protocol. For details on connecting to CISE machines from home or other locations, refer to the Secure Remote Access page.
