SUBMISSION FORMAT GUIDELINES

There are three (3) items that must be submitted upon acceptance of the extended abstract

FILE COMPRESSION METHODS: The Postscript and Multimedia files must be compressed prior to being submitted. Acceptable compression utilities are Pkzip, Unix zip, Unix Compress, or Gzip. The file suffixes used by these utilities are: ".Z" for Unix Compress, ".gz" for Gzip, and ".zip" for both Pkzip and Unix zip.

Item 1: HARDCOPY: An 8.5" x 11" hardcopy of the paper must be delivered along with the Postscript and Multimedia files. The page length for the article cannot exceed 6 two-column single-spaced pages, and a font size of no less than 11pt must be used. Please follow the instructions in the WMC '98 Hardcopy Author Kit. A printed proceedings will be issued at the conference. Additional pages will involve a page charge. Please send this hardcopy to:

Item 2: POSTSCRIPT FILE: Authors must deliver a compressed Postscript copy of the final submission. The format requirements for the Postscript page layout are the same as for the hardcopy in Item 1. Submissions are to be sent by ftp to www.isima.fr/scs/incoming/websim/ if the SCS site is not working. When you ftp to this site, make sure to specify the directory all at once: cd scs/incoming/websim. When you create your file, use the first author's last name followed by the first and middle initials. Remember that this file should be compressed. A sample file to upload (using gzip compression) for first author John A. Doe would be: doeja.ps.gz. Creating Postscript for LaTeX involves using dvips or a close relative. For MS Word documents, Postscript is created by invoking "Print to File" and then choosing a Postscript-compatible printer.

Item 3: MULTIMEDIA FILE: Due to the conference title and theme, we are requesting multimedia presentations. All multimedia presentations must be HTML and web compatible. Multimedia requiring special-purpose browser software plugins may be used but they must be available free of charge on the web. Some plugins will not work on a wide variety of platforms, but that is acceptable. We plan to have the multimedia presentations placed either on a web server, or placed on a CD-ROM. A sample file to upload (using zip compression) for first author John A. Doe would be: doeja.zip. Here is what you need to submit for a multimedia submission: a compressed file containing no sub-directories and containing all files necessary for browsing your HTML document. All multimedia files and icons must be included and cannot reference any external URLs. This is necessary to provide continuity from one year to the next. External URLs may change or be removed over time. Please feel free to use a wide variety of techniques if they are relevant to your submission. These techniques include, but are not limited to:

Streaming is important for audio, video and animations for the web site, whereas streaming is not important for a CD-ROM. At this point, it is unclear which of these two options will be taken by SCS. We will keep you updated.
